A great turnout for our July Camino Training Walk and Meetup.
Despite the rainy start to the morning and 7 degrees, 45 walkers set off in 3 groups at 9am from Glenbrook Station carpark. Luckily the rain was light, and it soon cleared which allowed for rain jackets and layers to be discarded.
Two Medium groups of 12 and the Easy route group of walkers of 20 set off from Glenbrook Station via suburban streets to Bluffs Reserve for views from Chalmers and Ross Lookouts before walking into Darks Common Reserve at Lapstone via the Zig Zag Tramway route.
The Medium group of walkers continued down the escarpment eventually going through the tunnel under the M4 then onto Glenbrook Lagoon before returning to Glenbrook village.
The Easy group stopped for a break at Lapstone Oval, then enjoyed a silent section through the bush track before heading to the tunnel under the MF and returning to Glenbrook.
After lunch, 40 people gathered at Glenbrook School of the Arts hall for the Camino Meetup.
The Camino Candle gifted to BMCS by the late John Brierley was lit. The group was welcomed by Tessa then going around of introductions from all! A wealth of knowledge and experience in the room with pilgrims having completed from one to eight Caminos and other pilgrimages to be had along with several pilgrims who are about to embark on their next Camino in coming weeks and some dreaming of their first in the future.
Several new supporters joined us today, some yet to do a Camino and are in their planning stage so they were able to glean some practical information from others.
Guest speakers with Camino Chats by Sharise with first time and returning pilgrims (Sarria to SdC) – Mary & Andrew and their 12yo granddaughter, Elouise prepared the slide show. Then it was Sharise’s turn (SJPdP to SdC), first time pilgrim for her Camino Chat with Sandra.
Blue Mountains Camino Supporters thank everyone who joined us today, people came from the Central Coast, Canberra and around the Sydney basin and Blue Mountains.
Thanks to the walk leaders and sweepers, and to those who contributed to the photos.
