The last Saturday of the month, 26/8/23. A beautiful day to do a mid-mountains walk at Winmalee, the Blue Gum Swamp trail. The swamp is characterised by cool air, bird song and tall straight blue gums with a thick undergrowth of ferns. Following the valley floor for around 4km and crossing 3 small creeks.
The Medium group of walkers met up and started much earlier than the 9 in the Easy group. The Easy group of walkers walked to the junction sign of Bees Nest and the Grotto before returning to the starting point.
For the Medium group of walkers at the junction sign to Bees Nest there is a 1km steep climb to Bees Nest hill to Grose Head South which features magnificent views of the Grose Valley.
There was much excitment to catch up with fellow pilgrims who were/are scheduled to fly out for their Camino (some another for 2023) and for the Bibb4, a very long walk – the Bibbulmun Track in WA.
Following the Blue Gum Swamp walk, the group converged on the Winmalee Tavern for lunch and Camino Meetup.
The group burst into song wishing Marina a very Happy Birthday from her Camino family.
Thank you Robert for the beautiful photos and to the walk leaders and sweeper, Margaret & Robert and Sharise.
