NICK’S CAMINO, Podiensis – starting at Le Puy-en-Velay.

Posted on July 8, 2026 by S

It was a wonderful trip … despite unexpected weather extremes with temperatures ranging from zero degrees to high 30s in a matter of days. Fortunately I finished before the second big heatwave at the end of June when temperatures went above 40!

I camped most of the time. At first it was out of necessity… because it was the French ‘walking season’. The Chemin was busy and all the accommodation was booked out. By the time things had eased up, I found I really enjoyed the freedom and space of camping… and even the basic municipal campgrounds in France are really good. The gites and hostels also allowed you to camp on site and join in the communal dinners.
